What is purpose of - The fields “Maximum difference in cents” and “Maximum rounding in cents in the repor? Is it ok if I left those fields with the value 0.00.

Or 0.50??

Help me to understand this in simple way.

Both are parameters set in the General Ledger that control how small rounding differences—caused by currency conversion and transaction posting—are handled.

Maximum Penny Difference: This defines the maximum allowed imbalance (in the accounting currency) for a journal posting to still be accepted and posted automatically. It applies when rounding causes debits and credits not to balance perfectly—typically during foreign currency postings.

Example: If set to 0.01, D365 will allow journal postings to proceed if the total difference caused by rounding is up to 0.01. If the imbalance exceeds this, posting is blocked and must be manually corrected.

The penny difference is automatically posted to a "penny difference" account if within the allowed limit.

Maximum Penny Rounding: Very similar in function, this controls the maximum allowable rounding difference specifically in the reporting currency (distinct from accounting currency).

Both settings are safeguards against small, unavoidable rounding errors blocking large, otherwise-valid transactions.

$0.50 could be a big/ small amount, this value depends lots on your country/ company. Usually, I will ask the Finance process owner for the value.

Rounding Rule on the Currency Form determines how amounts are rounded when posting transactions in a specific currency.

Example: If you set the rule to round to 0.05, and you post a value of $10.03, the system might round it up to $10.05, depending on your rounding method (up/down/nearest).
