In Dynamics 365 Finance, the Maximum Penny Difference and Maximum Penny Rounding are General Ledger parameters that manage how minor imbalances—typically resulting from currency conversions and rounding—are handled during journal postings.
Maximum Penny Difference: This setting defines the maximum permissible difference (in the accounting currency) for a journal to be posted automatically, even when debits and credits don’t perfectly balance due to rounding.
Example: If set to 0.01, the system will allow the journal to post as long as the imbalance does not exceed 0.01. Any difference within the threshold is automatically posted to a predefined penny difference account. If the imbalance exceeds this limit, posting is blocked and requires manual adjustment.
Maximum Penny Rounding: Functionally similar, this parameter applies to differences in the reporting currency (if used). It governs the acceptable rounding variance specifically in reporting currency amounts.
