Fail to install or download required components for CRM 4.0

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have been trying to install CRM 4.0 for Outlook with no success. I have searched all over this forum and google and not found a solution. First of all, our IT manager quit and nobody else here knows what to do and I know this is a very old version of CRM, but its what I have to work with. The installation fails when trying to install required components for CRM. When I run SetupClient.exe and choose Outlook with offline access, the Download and Install required components window opens. It says I need

1. Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime

2. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (CRM)

3. Microsoft SQL Reporting Service Report Viewer Control

If I select install, it will fail to download any of them. I tried set things up for offline installation by downloading the components manually, and placing them in the install folder. I put Visuall C++ in a folder named "VcRedist," SQL Server in a folder named "SQLEXPRESS," and SQL Reporting in a folder named "ReportViewer." When I run the installation again, it finds Visual C++ and SQL Reporting, but it does not find SQL Server. The download then fails for SQL Server. If I look in the log (below) it says it failed to find SQLEXPRESS\SQLExpr.exe, however, I have it named exatly this way and in the same folder locations where the other two components were found without issue. I am not sure why the program cannot find the file and I still do not understand why the download is failing anyway. If I could get either way to work, I would be very happy! It was previously installed on this computer and the same OS (Windows 7 64 Pro). I had to reformat and now am having trouble reinstalling.
