What is the use of itemclasscomponent table

Item Master Qty List report in HQ :
 
Items are unique in Item table but when we run the item master Qty list report in HQ level some items showing duplicates because of those items have multiple entries in itemclasscomponent table.
What is the use of itemclasscomponent table

    Thanks Jeff,

    Actually we dont have any assembly items. We importe the new items throguh Store_Operations_Import_Utility . I dont know how the duplicate records created in the Item class componenet table. Because of this duplicates the Master Quantity list report is not matching with Stores Qty .

    Shall i delete those duplicate record in the Item Class component table.

    Please advise me from this problem.
