Copying and Pasting Account Info

Hi all,

We transitioned from a premises install of Goldmine to Microsoft CRM Online.  One of the features of Goldmine that we really really miss is the ability to quickly and easily copy and paste account information from Goldmine to an email, a document, a calendar....wherever.

You simply selected edit/copy contact details and that was it.

I have not seen a way to do the is MSCRM.  Is there a way?  Is there a third party software to make it possible?

Thanks

    Hi Patrick,

You can do it using javscript that writes to the clipboard, but many browsers block it so your users may need to adjust their security settings for CRM. You can add a button to the account ribbon that fires off javascript to read the account information and put it on the clipboard.

Here's a writeup on how to build a button that calls javascript in CRM: blog.cobalt.net/.../ribbon-workbench-solution

this link will show you how to get the attributes from the account record in javascript: msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg334409.aspx

and stackoverflow.com/.../how-do-i-copy-to-the-clipboard-in-javascript will help you get the content onto the clipboard.

Hope this helps! I'd appreciate if you'd mark this as a Verified answer.

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    Hi Patrick

If only a text you can use conventional CTRL + C

If you are referring to the record then you need to do:

    1. JavaScript

    2. Plugin

    3 or Workflow

    Thanks

Aileen thanks much for the response.  You mention a plugin; can you tell me the name of the plugin and where I might get it?  Thanks.

    Hi Patrick,

I don't think a plugin is the way to go here, I'm not even sure what's you'd want it to do. Possibly combine the address components into a new address field but that seems awfully wasteful.

If you're looking for a way to copy an address from CRM you want to use js to pull the address and copy it to the clipboard.

    Thanks,

     Aiden

Thanks Aiden.  I am still looking at your suggestion above.  I am not a developer, so I will look through it.  I am quite new to MSCRM, so still trying figure stuff out.

To add to my last reply: I thought of just creating another field that is text only and copying the Account name and Address/Phone Number into it, but I agree wasteful.  I also would have to figure out how to populate it.  In Goldmine VERY easy to do.  I have a lot of prior Goldmine users complaining about this. :(
