Bulk Purchase and Repacking

Dear All,

I have a scenario and need your suggestion how this can be setup in D365.

1. We Purchase an item in bulk from supplier.Ex: 10,000 pcs

2. Supplier delivers the good in bulk

3. Internally we Repack the 10,000 pcs in 200pcs pack

4. 200 pcs pack item is sold to Customer.

Option considered is Bulk item is called as Item B and the Repacked Item is called as Item A.

Item A has a BOM with Item B as child item, and we will have a Production order created for Item A and do the Re-Packing operation and Production order Receipted to get the Item A with required packed qty.

Is there any alternate solution without using the procduction order, using the same Item A to Purchase and sell, but have a process controlled with system to Repack?

(There will be cases the Repacking will be done by Sub contractors as well, so will need another PO. With Production order process, thinking to have the service part and create Subcon PO)

Requesting your valuable suggestions.

    Hello Sumya,

DO you need to trnsform B into A?

If you want to track that transformation (ie adding labor $ value plus packaginh $ value that you want to assign to the cost of A) then Production Order is the better tool.  Also allows you to plan capacity.

    Otherwise:

    1) You can use a Report As finished Journal to deduct item B and put A in stock. You need a BOM but not a Production Order (Inventory Management > Periodic Tesks > Bill of Materials > Report as FInished). On a given time and day, move desired quantity of Item B to a pre-assigned location and create a RAF Journal for the quantity of item A you plan to put in stock.

    2) If not necessary to keep the repacked Item A in stock, then sell item  B in <Pack OF 200> quantities.  On releasing the sale order to warehouse, configure the work template to break the work so that each work line (license plate) is 200 units.  Move these license plates of 200 pcs to the shipping location for shipment.  This is the pack as you pick option.

Just some ideas to get the mind juices flowing...

    Regards,
