Reportwriter Security on 2010

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 460

Within the past week we have seen four different customers when they are trying to print a standard report from GP are getting that the report dictionary isn't loaded error message.

The reports (and it doesn't seem to be a single report), have never been modified but the standard report shows up in Alternate/Modified Reports and Forms but it isn't marked.

This is on version 2010.

Has anyone else seen this?

    Janelle,

I have seen this many times also, and is exactly as you described. Also what has come up is that a third party product aka Project Accounting, decides to modify security for everyone to look at an alternate report. The problem is that all of the workstations do not have Project installed, so they do not have the alternate report.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

I have seen this situation when the following circumstances occur:

    1. Users are set up with their own report dictionaries (rather than shared dictionaries).
    2. A user with Report Writer rights pulls up a report in GP and clicks the Modify button at the top of the report.
    3. This launches Report Writer and creates a Modified Report (even though the user never actually modified the report).
    4. A user subsequently goes into Alternate/Modified Reports and Forms and marks all of the modified reports.
    5. Now users that don't share a dictionary with user that modified the report get the report dictionary isn't loaded message.

Please keep in mind that all reports dictionaries need to be shared.  (e.g. you need to set it up for Project and HR separately from GP.)

This might seem far-fetched, but it really happens!

Can't say I have seen this but I would try:

    1) Export all reports out to a package file

    2) Rename REPORTS.DIC

    3) Import the package file to restore all reports

    4) Run Reconcile on Security

I hope your users share a common reports dictionary. Otherwise you may have one user who has one set of reports and another user who has a different set. If this is the case, I would merge all the report dictionaries into one and then change the launch file to point to the shared version.
