We have two users that keep experiencing outlook crashing.  We have done everything we can think of. They have all the rollups, all windows updates, we have reconfigured CRM, they aren't running anything special but outlook keeps saying it needs to close.  If we turn off the CRM addin it works fine.  They will get the error 5-6 times a day.  The event viewer shows this.

An error occurred with the Microsoft CRM Outlook add-in.  Restart Microsoft Outlook and try again. HR=0x86220009. Context=General. Function=CExplorerEventsRoot::SelectionChangeInternal. Line=521

    Hi Rachel,

Did you try doing a clean install of the Outlook client?

Please follow the below steps and let me know the result:

    1. Uninstall CRM Outlook client.

    2. Delete the Microsoft Dynamics CRM folder from Program Files.

    3. Delete the MSCRM folder from

    • C:\Users\<logged_in_user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft and

    • C:\ Users\<logged_in_user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft

    4. Delete the below mentioned registry keys (It may be that you don't find all the below keys, so delete whichever you find from the below list)

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSCRMClient

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSCRM

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSCRM_Setup

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSCRMClient

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\MSCRM

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\MSCRM_Setup

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\MSCRMClient

    5. Restart the computer

    6. Run a repair installation for Office.

    7. Download CRM client for Outlook from www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx and install it.

    8. Download the Update Rollup which is there on your CRM Server, for the Outlook client and install it. (Eg: If CRM Server has Update Rollup 11 installed, please install Update Rollup 11 for the CRM Outlook client also.

    9. Check in the Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> view installed updates, for the Update Rollups installed for CRM client.

    10. Configure the Outlook client for CRM and then try using it.

I have this same issue for at least one user. Started late last month.

    Machine is Windows 7 x86, CRM 2011, Outlook/Office 2010. Has CRM update rollup 14.

Reinstalled CRM and Office. No luck.

We are seeing the first error in the event manager, however, outlook isn't closing.  Our CRM View tabs are not functioning properly though.  the first load of a tab works fine, second load of the same tab (navigate away and back) it loads blank - no error message other than in the event viewer.

Can you verify what version outlook client is installed?

Outlook - File - CRM - About Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

    should be at least 5.0.9690.3448

I've seen some instances the update rollups say they installed successfully but they didn't leaving the client version on a broken version.

In some cases I've actually had to install the client from the full redistributable and then after the prerequisites are downloaded disconnect the client from the internet and let the install finish and then manually apply the update rollups.  I found that if you let the auto installer get through the Updating from Microsoft update it would get stuck on a specific version and never let you update to a newer one.
