Migrating data from picklist field to lookup

hi,

As a part of ongoing enhancement to existing system, we have decided to recreate a "country" picklist to country entity as it is being used on multiple entities, to maintain consistency. At this moment, for existing records, we have decided to update data from old country picklist field to new country lookup field. Well this can be done in multiple ways. Wish to know impact if this is carried out by writing a direct sql-update query from backend. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

As always, direct writing to the SQL Database is not supported. I don't think you will run into issues but as always, back the databases up before you try anything.

As a side option, if all you want to do is create a list of countries on a custom entity, why don't you download a list of countries into Excel, add or remove information to it, save as a csv and then import as countries via the Import Wizard?

It will take less time to do it that way and it is a supported method.
