Role Center Customization in Business Central: Removing and Adding Specific Cues Across Roles

(5) ShareShare

Posted on by

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central provides several standard Role Centers with predefined cues and activities. While these are helpful in general, I recently faced a requirement where certain standard cues needed to be removed, and new role-specific cues needed to be added, based on business usage.

I wanted to check with the community on standard/functional approaches vs customization before proceeding further.

🔹 Scenario

We are reviewing and refining Role Centers for different user roles to ensure that users see only relevant information.

The following changes are required:

🔹 Sales & Relationship Manager Role

We want to remove the following standard cues from the Role Center:

  • Campaign-related Cues

  • Job Queue Tasks

  • Timesheets

These activities are not relevant for this role in our implementation.

🔹 Business Manager Evaluation Role

  • Remove Shopify Activities–related Cues from the Business Manager Role Center

These cues are visible even though Shopify activities are not part of the evaluation users’ daily responsibilities.

🔹 Shipping & Receiving – Warehouse Management System Role

  • Add a Transfer Order–related Cue to the Role Center

Requirement details:

  • The cue should show only Transfer Order–related documents

  • First preference is to reuse any existing standard cue, if available

  • If no standard option exists, a custom cue may be required

🔹 Questions for the Community

  1. Are there any standard ways (permissions, profile configuration, feature setup, or role customization) to

    • Hide or remove specific cues like Campaigns, Job Queue Tasks, Timesheets, or Shopify Activities?

  2. Are these cues driven purely by:

    • Assigned permissions?

    • Enabled features (e.g., Shopify integration)?

    • The Role Center page design itself

  3. If no functional approach exists, is Role Center page customization the recommended and safe approach?

  4. For Transfer Orders:

    • Does any standard cue already exist that can be reused or configured to show only Transfer Orders?

    Hello,

Cue visibility is driven by the Role Center page design, not by permissions or profile setup. You can’t reliably hide Campaigns, Job Queue, Timesheets, or Shopify cues using standard configuration—even if features are disabled. The supported and recommended approach is to customize the Role Center page (page extension) to remove irrelevant cues and add role-specific ones. For Transfer Orders, there is no standard cue that shows only transfer orders, so a custom cue is required.

This is all achievable by going to the Profile, and clicking on Customize pages. You can then hide/remove any cues that are not required. For example:

For the transfer order cue as far as I know you'll need to create a custom one, you can follow the guide here - Creating and Customizing Cues - Business Central | Microsoft Learn
