Attaching documents from SharePoint to journals

Hi there,

We have a business requirement to enable users to choose file directly from SharePoint when attaching documents to D365 Finance general journals. We know we can manually download the file from SharePoint to local computer and upload as an attachment to the journal in D365. However, our users don't want to perform this additional step and given that all the documents now are moving into cloud (like SharePoint) this requirement seems to make sense.

Is there a way to achieve this using out-of-the-box features? Or custom code is the only option?

    This has been resolved!

We can achieve this without any code, MS Flow or PowerApps. All we need to do is:

    1. Open the SharePoint folder in Internet Explorer. This option is not available in other browsers!
    2. On right-hand side, click All Documents drop down
    3. Click View in File Explorer
    4. Once the SharePoint folder opens up in the Windows File Explorer, copy the URL from the address bar
    5. Go back to D365 Finance. Open the payment journal.
    6. Click attachments
    7. Click New > File. This will open the Windows File Explorer
    8. Past the URL in the address bar of the Windows File Explorer
    9. Choose the file directly from SharePoint.
    10. Done.

    Hi Ludwig,

I mentioned GL journal just as an example. The requirement is when user clicks on the attachment icon on any record, e.g. a payment journal or free text invoice or a vendor master, user wants to attach the supporting document (which is stored in SharePoint) directly from the SharePoint online as in the file open dialog should be able to show documents from SharePoint.

    Hi Muhammad,

You can achieve this with the powerplatform (flow, logicapp).

The main question is, however, how can you establish a link between your GL journals / journal lines and those documents?

To me it sounds like an invoice attachment scenario, is that right?

If so, why you record invoices in GL?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
