Hello,

I am not a programmer.

We have Dynamics 365 installed and few months ago we hired a developer to build some plugins. The plugins were developed and installed and we have got 2 environments prod and sandbox.

I wan to access the code which was written by the developers. How can I access the code without breaking anything.

Could you please provide me simple step by step instructions as to how I can access the code in sandbox environment without breaking anything.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

    Hello,

When plugins are deployed/installed into Dynamics 365, the application does not contain the original source code for the plugins, instead an optimized (compiled) binary file is uploaded and installed to Dynamics 365, which can not easily be extracted or turned back into source code.

Your developers will (hopefully) have the original source code stored in a source control like Git or TFS.

You should ask them for a copy of the source code or access to the source control.

Generally (depending on your contract and the country where you work from), any source code written for you as contract work  is your intellectual property and they have to give you access to it. There are exceptions, like if there is an intellectual property clause in your contract or if they are from a country which has bad intellectual property laws. I'm not a lawyer, please take caution in how you approach this.
