Error adding a license to user - alternative email in use

I am having an error adding a Dynamic CRM for Sales Professional license to one of my users.  The error I am getting is: "The email address is being used as an alternative email address.  Use a different email address."  The problem is that it is NOT being used as an alternative email address for any user.  I have checked many times.  I have contacted Microsoft, but they moved by ticket to another department and have not gotten back to me yet.  Has anyone had this problem and found a solution?

    Solution - We had to remove all the proxy addresses, add the license, and then add them back.  This worked!  No idea what was happening.

    I only have myself and one other user in the CRM.  Neither of us have this email address in our personalemailaddress field.

    I have checked AD and none of my other users have this email address attached to them.

    Where have you checked if the email address is in use for another user ? The issue could either be with data in CRM (in the personalemailaddress field on the systemuser entity), or with the alternate email address associated with an Office 365 user in Office 365

    Is this on-premise? If so please check you AD does any of the active/inactive users have this e-mail id used in their profile. If so please delete/ modify then try again.
