Windows 8.1 + RMS 2.0.2000 + Cherry USB Keyboard with MSR

When I try to swipe a card in RMS, the keyboard beeps but the Account Number and Expiration Date fields remain blank.  I can swipe a card into Notepad and the formatting looks correct.  I've set up the Cherry MSR with the ; and Shift / Enter on Track 2 but it isn't working.

Is there a change in Windows 8 or in CU5 that is causing this?  If not, any insight or help you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Here is the fix I received from Cherry. It worked on both computers that I tested

Make sure the following services are set to run as an administrator. You will need to do this for all user accounts.

    cdi.exe

    cdimsrclient.exe

    keyman.exe

To do this do a Ctrl+Alt+Del and open the Task Manager.

    Click on the Processes tab.

Elect to "show processes from all users".

Right click on the cdi.exe process and select properties.

    Click on the Compatibility tab.

Select to "Run this program as an administrator".

    Click Apply then OK.

Repeat these steps for the cdimsrclient.exe and keyman.exe processes.

    When finished reboot the PC.

This is still an issue in Windows 10. I believe it is related to the abolition of macros in Windows 10; i.e., multiple automated keystrokes.  We have five computes here, three have Windows 10 and two have Windows 7. The keyboard works perfectly on all five of them when not in RMS (a swipe is treated like keystrokes, no matter what program you are in). In RMS, the two Windows 7 computers will recognize the magstripe swipe, but the three Windows 10 will beep, but not read the data.

I have never setup your particular keyboard.  But this is what I would do.

    Open Cherry Tools

    Choose Modify current configuration.

    After entering configuration:

    Choose the MSR tab

You will want to end tracks 1 and 2 and make sure to disable track 3. You will also need to enter the correct header and terminator in the Cherry software.

For Track 1: The header is % and the terminator is ?

For Track 2: The header is ';' and the terminator is 'Enter'. The semicolon tells the keyboard MSR how to parse the credit card info.

***Notice track 2 usually ends with ? but I replaced this with Enter to tell RMS that we are done reading the card.

You could also try turning off track one, but you might get charged more by your processor for now having full track data.

    Hi Ed,

Thanks again. To answer your previous question, yes.  I can type a card in and run it successfully.

I have the latest Cherry Designer installed, if that's the download you referenced.  If not, I'm not sure what I should download.

With regard to the carriage return, is there a specific place to turn off carriage returns?  I didn't see one. Thanks!

Seems like your MSR is sending a /CR (Carriage Return) prior to sending the track information.  You should have all the /CR turned off except the one at the end of reading the card.

You should be able to download it here.  www.cherry.de/.../download.php

    Hi Ed,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

The keyboard is a Cherry My8000USB.  It seems like maybe the Cherry Designer isn't sending the data to the keyboard, but I don't know how to tell for sure if it is.

    Thanks again.

What is the model number of the cherry keyboard?  Can you manually type into the Account Number and Expiration Date fields?

There isn't a change that would affect entering text into a credit card fields.  Microsoft did remove the options for PCCharge and ICVerify integration.
