What user should be calling the Web API?

Hello there,

I am implementing the API of CRM Online, to create leads directly from web forms that exist on our front facing web site.

I was wondering if there are any best practices on what CRM user should be creating these records. Would it be ok to create a dedicated user who would represent the Website, or in general the caller system?

What have you been doing people? Any ideas?

Thanking you in advance.

Jason

Generally we have dedicated user detail stored in web config which can be reused in all webpages to create, update entity in crm.

This user should be given security role to required entities only as per business requirement.whenever a user is logged in to the website, he can see all views but when create or update action is performed. webconfig user details to be used.

Hello there and thank you for your response.

You are referring I guess to the web.config of your Web site. Correct?

So you have created a CRM user who has specific permissions and your Website uses this user to login to CRM and perform all record creates and updates.

    Jason,

Thank you for the post. I am trying to solve a similar problem. We want leads to be created when a form is entered through our website. I am more on the functional end of CRM and after reading your post I was wondering if you could outline how you achieved this? The developers on my team were asking for the appropriate method, however I would like to cross my T's and dot my i's throughout the process. Any help or direction would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    DS - CRMguy

    Hello,

I have created a user in CRM that has the absolute minimum permissions to login and create leads.

I use the Web API to login and create leads.

    It’s fairly simple.

    Thank you

    Jason.
