Getting started with MS Dynamics AX 2012

Hi,

I am a Software professional and pretty new to MS Dynamics.

I want to start working (development environment) on MS Dynamics AX 2012.

I have searched about how to download MS Dynamics AX 2012 trial for development.

Based on my research following are my assumptions:

1. There is no free trial download for MS Dynamics AX 2012.

2. There are certain third party providers that provides free trial download for MS Dynamics AX 2012 but they require actual business email address and after download there is no support for development environment.

3. If I have an MSDN subscription then I can download the setup files. But in this case I have to manually setup and configure Dynamics AX on my local system. Also there is no demo data present. And creating demo data is a tedious task. Also support for development environment is not present (I am not sure on this though).

4. If I have access to Customer Source or Partner Source than I can download a hyper-v machine on my local system with AX2012 R2 already installed with demo data. But with the demo license the development environment is not accessible. For that I should have a working license for AX2012.

Are my assumptions correct?

It would be of great help if you can elaborate on the above points and help me.

Thanks,
Tauseef.

The information about MSDN subscription isn't correct - installation and license files are included in some MSDN subscriptions. Simply take a look by yourself: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/hh442898.aspx#searchTerm=dynamics%20ax.

Thanks Faisal for your valuable reply.

So summarizing all of the above:

    1. There is no free trial download for MS Dynamics AX 2012.

    2. MSDN subscription has nothing to do with MS Dynamics AX 2012 download and installation.

    3. If I have access to Customer Source or Partner Source than I can download a hyper-v machine on my local system with AX2012 R2 already installed with demo data.

After performing the 3rd step I will have have access to developer work space integrated in MS Dynamics AX 2012.

I hope I am clear now.

    Hi Tauseef,

    1. Yes, there is no free trial version for AX 2012

    2. Your MSDN subsription has nothing to do with Dynamics AX so you cannot get anything from your MSDN subscription

    3. Yes, to download AX VMs you have to have Partnersource account and these VMs does come with demo data

VMs last for years so you will have access to development workspace being valid user as you downloaded it from PartnerSource.

Let me know if you still have any question.

In that case, the statement is wrong.

By the way, the developer workspace is a part of the AX client; you can't remove it even if you wanted.
