Downloading RDL files from 2016 Online

I want to make a minor change to a standard report - add a logo to a quote or something. When I download the .rdl file from CRM, is comes with SQL embedded however it needs to be in FetchXML for me to upload it.

Why does CRM have SQL in the file when it insists on FetchXML and, more importantly, can I translate one to the other? As I say, I just want to make a minor, cosmetic adjustment to a report but cannot upload the report because it comes down with SQL but needs to go up with FetchXML.

I can't be the first to ask this question, so sorry it it's a repeat.

Thanks, guys. I was hoping not to have to write from scratch - especially since I am a SQL DBA but know very little about FetchXML. Guess it's time to learn...

Not all the reports contain fetchxml, it is mix match also, fetchxml and sql embedded. if you upload back with your changes, it will work.

    Hello Rod,

You can't modify Out of the Box reports. And on online environment, as you have seen, you must use FetchXML.

You must create a new report with FetchXML, but there are some limitations which make the translation from SQL to FetchXML uncertain.

Here is a link to a BETA tool which translate SQL to FetchXML : fetchxml2sql.codeplex.com
