Stockkeeping Units and Consumption in Production BOMs

Hi:

Let's say that you have a stockkeeping unit (SKU) for two Location Codes and that this SKU is a component item within a Production Bill of Material (BOM).

From which of the two Location Codes will the Production Order pull this component?

Its depends on the routing. You will have different routing setup for different location.

If your Production Order has a Location set, it will create demand for the components at that Location.

The only thing that changes this behavior is if your Work Center has a Location defined and the components are linked to that Work Centers Operation via a Routing Link Code. Then the component will be assigned the Location of the Work Center.

The only other way the component Location is changed is through a manual update to the component line.

Remember a SKU is used to determine what happens when demand is created for that Item at a specific Location. It does not change how Locations are assigned in the system.
