Is there a way to override a date field or quote cycle field on an active quote?

If our sales team types in a wrong received date when the quote is first started, the quote cycle time is forever wrong. You can set the quote back to draft mode and edit the received date but when you activate it, the Date set to Active date updates to the current day and the cycle time is still wrong.

I have tried enabling the security on those fields but it still does not allow you to edit them.

We are reporting on our sales team quote cycle time now so looking for a way to fix this problem to report correctly.

Has anyone else ever encountered this problem and figured out a way to fix it?

    Hi Stephanie,

We can use business rules to make fields unlocked.

    • Proceed as follows:

Create a new business rule within the Quote entity.

    Set the business rule to

    IF
    Status equals "Active"
    THEN
    Unlock Requested Delivery Date

Select the fields you need to unlock, here I just chose a random date field.

Save and activate this business rule.

    • The effect is as follows:

After the quote is activated, this field can still be edited and saved.

For details on business rules could refer to this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/customize/create-business-rules-recommendations-apply-logic-form

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Lu. I set up the business rule and it did allow me to change the date needed. However, it will not let me save the changes?

    It gives me this error:

    Error

The object cannot be updated because it is read-only. If you contact support, please provide the technical details.

Is there a way to make it save?

    Hi Stephanie,

Are the received date and quote cycle time custom fields?

Are they set up with Field Security?

Also, please check if JavaScript events or workflows are set on these two fields.

If all ways are invalid, remember to deactivate the business rule to revert back to the original settings.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Lu Hao

    Hi Stephanie,

Please refer to this post: https://community.dynamics.com/365/sales/f/762/t/312241

We can see that using the workflow or Excel import can modify the quote field.

    1. Use the on-demand workflow to update the required fields for quote.

Please refer to this article on Create and Run On-Demand Dynamics 365 Workflows: https://community.dynamics.com/crm/b/crmtipstricksnewstomaster/archive/2017/03/29/create-and-run-on-demand-dynamics-365-workflows

    2. Use advanced find to filter out the quote you want to modify, then use Excel export and import feature to modify the field values.

Or use the Open in Excel Online feature to modify it online.

Please refer to this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/basics/import-export-data

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

Ended up being a business process that we weren't aware of that was making all of the dates automatically input. Once we edited the process, we got it to work!

    Hi @lu Hao

I have implement this solution but have the following problem. If the system administrator access the quote form while it is active, he can edit the fields and save the form. However if a user access the same record he can't, he gets the error that the record is read only. How can I solve this?

    Thanks

    Teresa
