Dear Expert,

I have some queries regarding the replenishment of item card.
I have used Replenishment system as Prod order of item A and have done a few transactions.
Now, I want to set it back to Purchase as the majority of the supply is purchase.

Is that possible to change back? May I know what the impact of this change?

Regards,
YMP

    Hello,

Yes, it is possible to change the replenishment system from "Prod. Order" to "Purchase" in Business Central.

Impact of Changing the Replenishment System
Changing the replenishment system can have several impacts:
    1. Planning and Supply Orders: The system will now suggest purchase orders instead of production orders when replenishing stock. This means that instead of manufacturing the item, the system will plan to buy it from a vendor.
    2. Inventory Management: Your inventory levels and lead times might change, as purchasing items typically involves different lead times and costs compared to producing them.
    3. Costing and Financials: The cost structure might change since purchased items may have different costs compared to produced items. This can affect your financial planning and budgeting.
    4. Vendor Management: You will need to manage vendor relationships and ensure that the vendors can meet your demand for the item.

In terms of Business Central impact, none.  If you're using Planning, the system will suggest Purchase Orders instead of Production Orders.  If you aren't using Planning, the Replenishment System field is simply informational.

In terms of outside of BC impact, as Jainam's AI response pointed out, there are business considerations to review.

Yes, you can change it, it will not impact anything. The only difference is how you plan and create which orders now.

    There shouldn't be any impact.
The next time you are running the replenishment, it will use the Purchase.

    Hi YMP,

Yes, it shouldn’t have any significant impact and will generate the purchase order based on the planning. However, you should consider how it might affect your unit costs and financials. I don’t think the impact will be substantial unless you're changing hundreds or thousands of units.

    Thanks
    Ramesh
