Making out of date tax detail inactive or remove?

We have an existing GST tax detail defined that is no longer in use due to tax changes in the province of British Columbia, Canada.  It was associated to several tax schedules and has been removed from those tax schedules.  

My question is, it is safe to delete the tax detail definition noting it was in use for several years before our change over to another tax detail for HST.

And my second question, can I also delete an existing tax schedule. That schedule only as the noted GST tax detail associated to it.

    Hi Frank,

    Thank you for replying.

    Further searching I ran across another posting where the user was having problems as a tax detail was deleted thru GP and they realized they had transactions against that tax detail so they attempted to add it back and had issues.

    Does that make any sense?

    Is  the tax detail id not required for reporting purposes?

    Or simply used to apply the appropriate tax details to the transaction and no longer referenced?
