Convert to opportunity column pre populate

Folks:

I have a column on Appointments form as 'Products' which is a lookup. I also have a column as 'Products' in the 'Opportunity' which is also a lookup. When I convert a Appointment to Opportunity the Topic column in Opportunity prepopulates with Subject from Appointments. I would also like the Products column in Opportunity to prepopulate with the Product selected in Appointment. I would like to know how can I achieve this. We are on CRM 2015 on premise.

Thanks !

    Hi,

    Can you please try with field mapping ?

    Read below to get an idea. Even though it is for CRM 2011 . It is same in CRM 2015.

    Hello SQL DBA;

    Normally with the 1:M relationships if they were the right relationship type you could just use mappings and make it auto populate that way. Unfortunately this approach isn't possible for the convert to opportunity function.

    I think your down to either looking at a workflow potentially on the opportunity create to look into the related appointment and set it that way or a plugin and custom code.

    I'd love to hear your thoughts on these approaches.

    Hello Mansoor;

    Unfortunately this approach won't work towards this specific example. The mapping between Appointment -> Opportunity is a N:1 relationship now allowing mappings to be set.

    Mansoor: I had tried what you mentioned, but it did not work.

    Jason: Thanks for a explanation.

    I'm fine with custom code to set the Product column in opportunity entity based on related appointment (form onload code), but would need help with the code as well because I'm not a developer. I'll also look at the workflow in the mean time.

    Thanks for all your help !
