where do you allow it from ? where is this configuration ?

You can use settings on the Item model group to enforce that Picking (Picking requirements) or Packing slip (Deduction requirements) are mandatory. Whilst it is possible to 'Pick' a sales order without using Work, you could use security to remove access to that functionality (Sales order line 'Pick', or 'Picking list' for example).

RE: How can a sales order be invoiced with an Release Status OPEN

    Hi Silvano,

I kind of know your environment from your posts, and I think the answer for your question will be at least Site, Warehouse, Location, Inventory Status should be specified for the warehouses you have "Warehouse management" functionality activated. If you are using mobile device for picking, or a license plate controlled location is specified in an inventory transaction then, License Plate ID should be filled also. As I see from your screenshot, you are also using tracking dimensions, so the ones that are active also should be specified. I also wrote a quick brief below, how I would investigate such an issue if I get suspicious on inventory transactions. I hope that helps.

Such an investigation has a lot to do with related products' following dimensions:

    • Product dimension group
    • Storage dimension group
    • Tracking dimension group

If you are using Product Masters, product dimensions should be filled all times with the proper values.

Product dimensions exist if you are using product masters, that means the products that have Size, Color etc. And they should be filled all times with the dimensions exist in "Released product variants" form which can be accessed with a button using the same name, at Product information management/Common/Released products page on the top ribbon bar's Product tab.

For storage dimension groups, you should check your items storage dimension group setup. An example is also shown below:

    Tracking-dimension-group.png

In this form, only the ones that have "Blank receipt allowed" can be left empty in inbound operations. And the same applies for outbound operations and "Blank issue" allowed.

A detailed article can be found here: Storage dimension groups (form) [AX 2012]

For tracking dimension groups, you should check your items tracking dimension group setup. An example is also shown below:

    Tracking-dimension-group.png

In this form the same validation applies I mentioned for storage dimension groups above, for "Blank receipt allowed" and "Blank issue allowed"

A detailed article about it is also here: Tracking dimension groups (form) [AX 2012]

thank you for the elaborate and interesting overview

i want to highlight this part

Just hit "dimensions display" in your inventory transactions form, and select all dimensions and let us know if there is a field that must be filled but left empty. Then it can be said say that there is a problem.

so you are saying if i check the inventory transaction , i should have all the fields that are filled in the Reservation Hierarchy , Right ? otherwise  i have a problem , right?

    Hi Silvano,

If proper dimensions specified in inventory transaction, you can post packing slip and so you can post the invoice, too. Using warehouse management does not mean forcing the use of warehouse processes.

Mandatory dimensions in inventory transactions can be defined in several ways without using the mobile device. For example,  If you create a sales line and fill mandatory storage and tracking dimensions on the line, you can directly hit generating packing slip. When you fill the location application will also inform you that it can't be released to warehouse anymore since you defined location dimension on the line. I assume there might be such a case.

Or, you can use functionalties under "Update line" button, above the lines grid in a sales order. That way you can update your inventory transactions to include mandatory dimensions, even tough they are empty on sales line. In that way also you can post packing slip and invoice. This is a method to use also, if your mobile device fails to work.  A more detailed explanation for this can be found in one of my replies in another post here: What if the warehouse mobile devices don't work?

So keeping these functionalities in mind, having "Release status" as open, and sales status as "Invoiced" does not mean that there is a bug.

Just hit "dimensions display" in your inventory transactions form, and select all dimensions and let us know if there is a field that must be filled but left empty. Then it can be said say that there is a problem.

    Hi,

It is possible to bypass the Work and Packing slips steps (if your configuration allows it) and post the Invoice directly.

    Hi Silvano,

Can you please share a screenshot of its inventory transactions?

I assume you already know the difference between these two statusses but here is an explanation also: 'Status' and 'Release status' on Sales orders. Whats the difference?
