How do we add Customer Types?

Hi,

We are looking for a way to group Customers. When creating a new customer, is there a way to add a Customer type?

Being a Sub-contractor, we have actual Customers we sent bills, mostly General Contractors, Drywall Contractors  Then

Customers Architects we send Questions to.

Customers Property Mgr we send Questions to etc. etc

When setting up Opportunities, we would prefer to limit our list to only see General Contractors.

We may wish to track sales on different customer types.

Does any know the way to add Customer types to BC to run reports on?

Best

Mike K

    Mike,

You can use Customer Posting Group to achieve your requirement. This will help you filter lists and reports by Customer Types.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Worth noting that opportunities use contacts so the suggested filter won’t save you there. I would use segments for that. Assign relevant contacts into the splits you mention. You can then filter opportunities with it.

Customer wise I’d think global dimension 1 or 2 is better. Less financial setup and more control over usage. These fields are used on virtually all reports in BC

Hi, as the above two experts said, using Customer Posting Group and global dimension 1 or 2 is a very good choice, which does not require customization.

Another method, using Name2, with the disadvantage that it requires manual input and cannot be selected.

Of course, if you have a developer, you can add a new (Customer type) field which may seem clearer.

    Hope this will help.

    Mike,

In thinking about your request, will you want any Income Statement (Dimensional) reporting by Customer Type(s). If this is true, then make this a Dimension on the Customer Card.

    Thanks,

    Steve
