I CAN'T CONNECT TO SQL

Hello!

I have a Windows Server 2003 with Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0

The last week I had problems with the NIC of that server.

I had to change the IP address of the server.

I tried to change the IP address in the ODBC of the clients.

But, they haven't be able to connect. Now, they're working by remote desktop.

What do I have to change in the server to allow the SQL connections?

What was the internal IP address of the server and what is it now? This sound like a network issue and may require the use of the SQL configuration manager.

    The IP was 10.10.10.160. Now, it's 10.10.10.165.

I had to change it, because the network didn't recognize the same IP.

The server has the SQL Server 2005.

Have you rebooted the server? On the server if you go into SQL 2012 Configuration Manager are you using Alias'?

If you go into your 32 bit ODBC administrator can you perform successful connections?

My mistake, what version of SQL are you running? SQL 2008 R2?

    It's SQL Server 2005.

    Hi Mayela,

As a general practice, it's not recommended to enter fixed IP Adresses in GP client configuration (ODBC setup), because of that kind of situation where you have to change the network address of your server's NIC.. You always use a server name (or even better, an ALIAS entry in the DNS) that points to the IP address.. this way your GP client won't have to be reconfigured and the user's password reset if the IP Address changes..

The GP client does encrypt the user password based on the ODBC entry that is used to connect the GP server by the name. Name change = pwd reset for all users, and you have to go around on each GP client and update the ODBC connexion.. not a good idea.

    Hi Mayela

I would say you need to recreate the passwords of all GP users except sa.

The issue is the encryption includes the Server Name / Address from the ODBC settings.

see the following article I wrote about this topic.
