Hi there

I have a requirement to add a "COPY" watermark to teh SOP invoice word template. The customer wants to print the watermark when an unposted SOP invoice is being printed for teh second (and more) time.

Essentially, a dynamic/conditional watermark.

Has anyone been aable to do this?

Riaan

    RE: Watermark on Word Template

I know this is an old question, but I've been struggling with a similar need and finally a solution combining two ideas popped into my head this morning. It does require adding a new field, which adds some complexity to the setup, but no more so than adding any new field to a template.

In my case, I need a watermark if a quote is not "approved" (which I determine based on the value of a custom field in the quote). I hope this helps someone else with similar requirements. Here's what I did:

    1. Added a calculated field to the quote entity that is set to blank or "DRAFT" based on whether the quote is approved or not.
    2. Added the calculated field to the template. I did this by mostly following the instructions in <crmtipoftheday.com/.../modify-data-source-for-word-templates-like-a-boss>
      • I initially used 7-Zip (since that's my default zip app), but that resulted in a corrupt document. Using Explorer as described in the post worked fine.
      • I think step 6 should be between steps 8 and 9 (after you rename the file back to docx and before you upload it). At least, that's when I did the step. For this step, I edited the footer and inserted a textbox in the middle of the page (doing this from the footer will make the watermark display on every page ... got this idea from "lanceter" <social.msdn.microsoft.com/.../how-to-add-a-dynamic-watermark-in-ms-word-document-form-the-custome-property>), and added the calculated watermark field to the textbox, formatting it and angling the textbox to look like a nice watermark.
      • To upload the modified template, I used Team EASI Download Doc Templates <teameasi.com/.../365-document-template-downloader> instead of XrmToolBox, because that was the first solution I happened to run across when I was initially looking into updating document templates, and I expect that any tool that can update the template should be fine.
    3. That's it. Whatever you're using to print your documents (I'm trialing DynamicsObjects PDF-DOCS <www.dynamicsobjects.com/.../Dynamics-PDF-Docs>) should have the watermark on every page.
