Discount Buy 2 get 1 same item free

I have 4 different products, which are in different departments and categories. Want to do promotion. Buy 2 same item and get third same item free. Basically buy 3 same items and charge only for 2.

I created Quantity Discount and mentioned Type as "Buy X and get Y for Z: Percent off. Mentioned 2 in quantity to buy at full price and one in Quantity to Get at discount and Discount percent as 100%.

I assigned same discount code for all 4 different products what I mentioned above. Instead giving discount to same item, it is giving discount to any third item FREE. For eg if I buy x and y and third z is giving 100%.

But I want buy x and x and third x supposed to be 100% discount.

Is there is anything I am missing ? Appreciate any suggestions.

If you want the discount to only apply to 3 of the exact same item purchased, but have 4 items you want to set this up for, you would need to set up 4 Quantity Discounts and assign a unique Quantity Discount to each of the 4 items.
