Hi Syed...Thanks for the information.
Hope you have a good day.
Bert,
Thanks for your kind remembering me. Way back in 2012, we bought this product and were able to archive 10 years of 260GB data by years and it worked very well. I don't remember the cost but I think it is not that heavy tag item and you can always ask them for quote.
Good morning Syed...Can you advise what the costs were for CDA? High Level...I trying to get a business case together before we reach out to CDA.
Thanks!
the company's name is Professional Advantage
You need to buy a 3rd party solution called CDA to archive your data. I have used and archive about 5 years of data and that is the only one which seem like working good.
Victoria's suggestion is good. If you do not want to purchase the add-on, you can make a backup of your database and retain that then purge transactions older than 2 years. Both solutions work depending on your need to access data (get the add-on) vs your budget.
We are trying to do a similar thing and I would like to ask a couple of questions to see how others have handled it. We have 13 years of data in our main company database. We are removing the 5 oldest years completely using the remove history utilities. Then we want to make a "history" company with the middle 5 years of data; keeping the 3 most current years in the main company. I created the new history company but am not sure about removing the "current" data. What did you do with the data in the history company that you were leaving in the working company? Thank you in advance for sharing your experience.

Martin,
There is a 3rd party product that does this called Company Data Archive by Professional Advantage: http://profad.com/products/cda.htm.

Just installed Company Data Archive and run it for a client with 10 years of history. The client archived 5 years and brought the archived data offline with no issues.
Victoria's suggesting on the Data Archiving option is good.
A "cheap" alternative is to make a backup and restore this to an "archive" company then use the Remove History functions to remove un-necessary details from prior years. The remove functions are generally found in the Utilities of each module and allow the specification of dates.
I took a client with 15 years worth of history in their working company, "archived" them in this manner, and then removed history from the live company. Posting worked much faster as did their searches, SmartLists, et cetera. And they still had access to all the historical data in the second copy of the company. Limit access to this backup company to selected individuals only.
HI,
from GP>tools> utilities and in each series you can remove history. you will be able to select your own parameter like invoice number or posting date etc.
