How to sell item below cost?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I tried to setup a BelowCost price level and enter a negative percentage in the Price List screen but it won’t let me.

Here’s what I’d really like…
Setup a site Called BelowCost.  Transfer any items we just want to get rid of, to sell below cost to BelowCost site.  In SOP screen select the BelowCost site and have the PriceLevel automatically select BelowCost.  But as I said, you can’t enter a neg % in Price List screen

Thought about Markdown but it’s manual.  Someone has to remember to enter the Markdown each time.  Also the Markdown amount displayed is “per item” there is no Extended Markdown Amount.  Which kind of throws you off.  So if the qty on the line is 5 and you enter $10 in Markdown it will only show $10 but the “real” markdown is $50. Also, there is no way (I know of) to indicate why it was marked-down.  Maybe if I use a combination of BelowCost site and markdown then when I see the BelowCost site I'll know why the markdown was applied.

Any suggestions?  Thanks.

In the Sales Order Processing setup there is an option to 'Allow Prices Below Cost'

    Tools> Setup> Sales> SOP > Options tab.

That may work for you.  It allows all items to be sold below cost so you may want to password protect it.
