Outbound process from SO via WHS

Hi AX gurus,

I have queries regarding outbound process from SO via AX 2012 R3's Warehouse Management System (WHS).

Currently I successfully run the process: SO > Reservation > Release to Warehouse (Create work, wave, load and shipment automatically) > Pick and Pack process from mobile device > Close work and confirm shipment.
From here, the issue status in inventory transactions is still 'Reserved physical'.

In order to update the status to 'Delivered' I need to post pick and pack from SO, followed by post the invoice - manually.

It seem double job, especially for pick and pack process. Is there a way to auto synch between WHS and inventory process? I couldn't run it through batch job because need to pick from a specific stock (Warehouse-Location-Batch No.-Inventory Status-License Plate combination).

Many thanks in advance,
Alain

    Hi Alain,

That sounds wrong. If the sales work becomes Closed, the inventory transactions attached to the Sales line should become Picked. In Warehouse management parameters -> General, do you have all your Location types set?

    Hi Alain,

If you are not using the packing functionality (There is an actual packing form in AX to do this, that's what I mean) your transactions should be updated as Picked and should not stay as "Reserved Physical" as soon as the work is closed.

If you are not using the packing functionality, then you should check your setups.

Please see my answer in another post about that here:  Cannot confirm Shipments: Some of the items that are needed for load have not yet been picked and moved to final shipping location

    Hi Alain Kumala,

The status of the inventory transaction will be picked and not reserved physical after the shipment is confirmed.

Coming to the second point the posting of the packing slip to update the general ledger for the financial posting of the shipping is last part in shipping cycle in warehouse once the shipment is confirmed and the status changes to shipped.

However these is no need to go back to the sales order as the same can be done using the load form.

Navigate to the load form and once you have completed the picking, packing and have confirmed the shipment you can post packing slip from the packing slip tab on the generate section.

Once you start operations in warehouse you have full control till posting of packing slip. Nothing is automated and these process needs to be processed manually by warehouse teams.

    Hi all,

    Thanks for your prompt replies.

I revisited the setups and found it in Location directives. Now after Work is closed and confirm Shipment, inventory status is 'Picked'.

To my understanding 'Confirmed Shipment' (shipment status: 'Shipped') should update inventory status to 'Delivered' hence shipped out already (instead of 'Picked'). Is it the R3's WHS terms only or my understanding is wrong?

Another thing is, why should we still need to post 'Packing slip' from SO? Isn't it 'confirmed shipment' already?

    Thanks heaps!
    Alain

    Hi Alain Kumala,

Confirm shipment and packing slip posting are not same things.

Shipment confirmation means completion of all warehousing operations for the sales order while packing slip posting updates general ledger and financial transactions for the sales order for the COGS and other ledger accounts.

As they are not the same things I shared above that you have the option to post the packing slip from the load form after the shipment is confirmed.

It's also possible to configure the Packing slip to post via a Batch job, for only those sales orders that have Confirmed shipments. However, there are some scenarios where this doesn't quite work perfectly.

Thanks Guy Terry, Fatih Gork, and Sagar Suman for sharing your idea.

I think this is the consequence of acquiring another system into the suite.
