Inventory Site Update with Manufacturing Shipments

When I record a manufacturing shipment for a MO, the site that the inventory is located in doesn't update. How can I configure GP so that the site is changed once a manufacturing shipment is recorded?

    Good day

I'm not sure what you mean by configuring GP to change a site

Are you saying that when you post an MO Receipt, you want the site the Finished Good is posted to be be changed?

Can you please clarify what exactly it is you are looking for?

    Thanks

    Hi Dean,

What I mean is that when I record a Manufacturing Shipment, I would expect GP to update the site of the items recorded to be the site that's in the Issue To field of the picklist; however, currently when I record a Manufacturing Shipment the site doesn't change at all. For example:

Inventory is currently located in Site A

Picklist Issue To field is Site B

I record a Manufacturing Shipment for item 1234 on MO1

I would expect item 1234 to now be located in Site B, but it's still located in Site A.

My question is how would I configure a MO, picklist, etc so that when I record a Manufacturing Shipment the site of the inventory updates appropriately to the actual site where the inventory is located after having been shipped?

    Thanks,

    Craig

    Hi Craig

The Component Trx Entry 'Issue' transaction decreases the quantity from GP and issues it to 'wip'.

We don't really put it into any other site - we just remove it from GP during the Issue trx and it comes back as part of the Finished Good during MO Receipt.

    Thanks

Let me know if I'm understanding this correctly:

The inventory will be issued to whatever site is the "issue to" site on the MO, and inventory isn't moved to that site in GP it's simply removed from inventory during an issue transaction and the finished good is put into inventory during the MO Receipt transaction, correct?

If this is the case and I have to do a separate Component Trx Entry for the issue transaction, what is the purpose of a Manufacturing Shipment transaction?

Another question on this: Is there anyway for the MO process to simply move inventory from one site to another without making it look like it's out of inventory? I'd like to have an accurate depiction of the quantity and value of the inventory that we have in our possession, independent of where the inventory is physically located.
