Transportation management module can be used for implementing Fleet management system????

Hi All,

I am developing a new solution for fleet management system as we don't have such module in AX world.But I can see there is a new enhancement in AX 2012 R3 by giving "Transportation module" as new module.

So I am on a confusion stage that, whether we can implement Fleet management concept/features in Transportation module or it is only applicable for manufacture and distribution .

Could you please guide me at this level, so that I can take forward my activities.

    Hi Jagadis,

    The transportation in AX 2012 R3 takes care of sending out or receiving goods. Namely it is focussed on rating and routing to find the best price/duration. It is not planning your own fleet/vehicles.

    Fleetmanagement should take care of your own vehicles. I had created a similar module in the past. Here you would like to track costs related you vehicles. That is not the functionality provided in Transportation management.

    Hi Jagadis,

    You want to create a module but you don't know what to put in it. This is what I understand from your question. Hou have to ensure you understand the processes related to fleet management first. Otherwise the product will fail for sure. I would suggest to have interviews with fleet owners at several companies. They can tell you their requirements and processes. When you have all requirements you can prioritize and determine if all requirements will make it to a product. Also the fleet owners should know what is important or not.

    With the prioritized requirements you can make a plan for an initial version and a roadmap.

    At least people want to register their vehicles (fleet). Then they would like to keep track of the drivers. Also the drivers will get some loaned items like a fuelcard.

    You want to keep track of costs in the system per vehicle. This could be split in multiple categories like fuel, insurance. Perhaps you want to charge other related companies if you have the fleet in a holding company and drivers of several entties uses the fleet.

    Also you would like to have insights in costs on reports and probably compare costs of similar cars.
