    Hi Ranjeet,

You license the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 solution functionality running on the server through Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2013 Server License, and access to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 solution functionality by internal users or devices through CALs.

Now this CALs can be a combination of Essential, Basic, or Professional. Access to the System Depends on CAL assigned to the user.

For more information you can check this

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn467367.aspx

    Hope that helps

    Thanks

    Hi Ranjeet,

You are talking about Microsoft CRM Online, right.

    Short answer..

No, the minimum is 5 either Enterprise of Professional.

    Long answer with detail one.

    See these references:

    blogs.technet.com/.../understanding-licensing-2015.aspx

    Especially for:

"Note: minimum number of USLs in CRM Online is 5 Professionals. When you have 5 professionals or more you can add Basic and Essential USLs to the mix"

    And this:

    www.microsoft.com/.../crm-online-fall-13-faqs.aspx

"New Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online customers purchasing licenses through the Microsoft Online Subscription Program (MOSP) are required to order a minimum of 5 Professional USLs with this program.  For customers with fewer than 5 users, we recommend they consider Business Contact Manager for Outlook."

    www.microsoft.com/.../crm-purchase-online.aspx

"... A minimum purchase of 5 Professional USLs is required for new subscribers."

    www.xrm.com/.../price-and-license-guide.aspx

"Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online is available at four different license levels: Enterprise ($200), Professional ($65), Basic ($30), and Essential ($15). All new CRM Online subscriptions must have a minimum of five (5) licenses. The minimum can be met with a combination of Enterprise and Professional licenses. Once the five-license minimum has been met, you may mix and match any number of additional Enterprise, Professional, Basic, and Essential licenses. For example, you could subscribe to 1 Enterprise, 7 Professional, 10 Basic, and 3 Essential licenses."

So, for the 6th and so on, then you can mix to Essential or Basic

    http://www.preact.co.uk/preact_blog/new-microsoft-dynamics-crm-licensing-options-announced

"Dynamics CRM Online is subject to a minimum of 5 x Professional CRM licences (this does not apply to existing customers with 1-4 licences activated before 1 October 2013). - See more at: http://www.preact.co.uk/preact_blog/new-microsoft-dynamics-crm-licensing-options-announced#sthash.d3r6K22U.dpuf"

But, you might check again with Microsoft Team just in case got any promotion or exclusion rule.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

    To be clear:

Yes, you can mix and match.

But, you must buy at least 5 Pro licences, or 1 Enterprise licence

You could buy 5 Pro and 20 Essential, or whatever other combination, but not with fewer than 5 Pro.
