Purpose of sales origin

Hello Friends,

As I could understand from Microsoft demo data, the sales origin could be used to identify the origin of orders like Phone, email, EDI etc. I would like to know if it is just for information purpose or drives any system logic? I can see two fields namely 'Origin type assignment' and 'Sales origin type'. What are they meant for?

Appreciate your help.

    They are used together with work order integration.

    You can use the sales origin for Advanced warehouse rules.  If you take a look at the Contoso data they use Webshop in the work templates and location directives.  

    In AWMS it's just used for creating different rules for different types of sales orders.

    think of all the different channels the SO could be created and later analyzed, more import for segmentation and reporting
