Removing quantity from a misc type part number

Posted on by 270

I have a part number that was set up many years ago and was set up as item type misc charges.  It has a quantity assigned to it.  I would like to remove the quantity because we no longer use this part.  It will not let me do an inventory adjustment it gives an error saying:

"Kit, service, miscellaneous and flat fee items may not be adjusted"

I also tried to remove it by sales transaction but it just marked an item as sold but didn't remove any quantity.  Please let me know if there is a way to fix this.  The only option i can think of at this time is go into the iv00101 table and change the part type to something other then misc.

Any advise would be good, thank you.

    Michael,

Edit the Item Master (IV00101) and change the field ITEMTYPE to 2.

    Thanks Leslie,

I did what you suggested and removed it from qty from the IV00102, we don't use multi-bin.  I remove the quantity from BGNGQTY and QTYONHND.  How do I discontinue a part number?

    I appreciate your help.

    thanks

    Michael

    MBender,

Misc charges cannot have quantities. Someone must of set this up as a Sales Inventory item and then went behind the scenes to change it to a Misc part. You could just go in and edit the Item Quantities Master (IV00102) and get rid of any 'quantities' assigned to the item number. If you are using multi-bin, you might also need to check for bin quantities.

If you want to remove this part number from your item master, you'll need to change it to a Sales Inventory item, make sure item quantities is zero, discontinue it, and then delete discontinued items during inventory year end close.

In order to delete it the "right" way, you would have to remove any transaction history that used this item.

You can't discontinue anything that isn't a Sales Inventory item, so often we change the item type just so we can mark it discontinued.

It's not ideal, but it works.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
