How to Enable Calling from Guides

Posted on by 10

Hello Guides Community-

I'm having trouble enabling the new Calling feature.  Could you please give some advice?

I reviewed this article, but could not enable it:  Enable or disable calling for a Dynamics 365 Guides environment - Dynamics 365 Mixed Reality | Microsoft Docs

The article said it should be enabled by default.  When we try to use it, it says "Calling (Preview) is not enabled:  your admin has disabled calling for this environment.":

When I follow the instructions to enable the function in the PC app, the second step looks different.  When I paste the instance URL to a browser, I do not have a Power Apps menu.  Instead, it goes directly into the Guides SANDBOX.

In the Guides SANDBOX, I do not have the "area picker" to be able to switch from Main to Settings:

Therefore, I cannot reach the Environment screen.

Could this be a license or permissions issue?  I was told that I was made a Guides administrator, but I'm not sure how to check that it's true.  I'm typically an end user, I don't know which licenses or subscriptions my company has.

I appreciate any feedback or advice!

Thanks,

Andy

    Hi Dave-

You are correct!  Our Solution version is 600.x.x.x.

Thank you for this information about version management.  I will review the upgrade procedure and work with our IT team to roll it out smoothly.

    Your help is much appreciated.

Calling from Guides should be a super handy feature!  We'll be happy to give feedback about it.

    Thanks again,

    Andy

RE: How to Enable Calling from Guides

Hi Andrew, this is Dave from the Guides team and thank you for trying the new app. We would love to get your feedback but first let's get you unblocked for calling. At first glance it looks like your solution has not been updated to 700.0.0.1. Instructions can be found here: docs.microsoft.com/.../upgrade. You or your administrator will need to schedule and perform the solution update.

For context, the solution contains our data definitions and other server-side code. We issue updates to the solution whenever we add new types of data or make other changes for features. Not every release requires a solution update, and you are not required to update right away (the client apps are backwards compatible). However, if you don't update, you won't get all of the latest features lit up in the client apps.

Note that we don't automatically update the solution by design - you will need to schedule the update because it will take Guides temporarily offline and disrupt end-users. You should also back up your data. Therefore, we leave it up to you to decide when to update.

Let me know if that works.
