Timesheet and Expenses

Hi all 

We Have CRM (2015 i believe) and are trying to get our project back up and running as users don't like using it. It's Vanilla and so doesn't work to our process'. One of the items i have been tasked with is to find out how Dynamics CRM can be utilised to use Timesheets and expenses. Can this be done without having an add-on?

There are a few articles out there, but to be honest they are bit part and tell you it can be done and that is it.
