GP2013R2 runs successfully, all the latest patches have been applied and getting the following errors trying to run GP2015:   The installer put GP2015 in its own folder, so I have two copies of GP installed, but only GP2013R2 works.

If you run a select statement on the company master table int he DYNAMICS DB, how many companies are there ? Are they all on GP 2013 R2 ?

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

SY01500 only has one company record, which matches expectations, we only have one company DB.

What steps have you done to prepare for the upgrade? Is there a clean/test environment you could install GP 2015 on?

Possible fixes would be, running GP 2015 setup As Administrator, Running GP 2015 Utilities as Administrator, making sure you have chosen the same modules to install for GP 2015 as you have for GP 2013 R2.

I have many environments to work with.  I started with the system requirements page and installed the latest patches.  I could install on a fresh server, but the end goal is to upgrade an existing installation.   I have all the updated keys for GP 2015, but never got to a place where I could put them in.

I did run setup as Administrator, I did run utilities as Administrator, but good point on the modules.  The modules did not compare 1 to 1 with the GP 2013 R2 installation.  I recall that at least one module was not available on the 2015 setup program.

I'm sure I can get 2015 installed standalone on fresh server with no add-ins, but that wouldn't help build a migration plan that can be used for production in the future.

    Don,

Before you try anything else, please apply this latest hotfix to GP 2015. mbs.microsoft.com/.../MDGP2015_PatchReleases

Restore a fresh copy of the production databases (DYNAMICS and GP Company) to your GP 2015 SQL instance and try the upgrade again.  It looks like version 12.00.1826 requires version 14.00.0619 mbs.microsoft.com/.../HOT_TOPIC_MDGP2015Upgrade

If you can copy and paste the contents of the Dynamics.SET file, we can determine what should be installed for GP 2015. Sometimes the names of the modues change and modules are phased out or rolled in to the core code.

Just so I can explain my plan for the environments, an ideal set up for a GP upgrade is

    1. Existing GP 2013 R2 SQL server: "Server A"

    2. New GP 2015 SQL server: "Server B"

    3. Client Access server with GP 2013 R2: "Server C"

    4. Client Access server with GP 2015 with same modules and products as GP 2013 R2 Server C: "Server D"

This will let you have the cleanest upgrade path from GP 2013 R2 to GP 2015. Once you have successfully upgraded, you can decommission servers A and C and use B and D as your new production environment.

It is very risky to try a direct upgrade between versions of GP, especially if you are experiencing errors. I would do the upgrade with some sort of "test" server that you could turn in to the new "production" server if everything goes well.

    Thanks for responding again!

I have the latest patch, I restored a matching data set of DYNAMICS and MPP (company file) to the test and will followup with the results. In the meantime:

Here is my Dynamics.set file from production. However, the test environment in the GP2013 folder only has 26 at the top of this file, and the .set file in the GP2015 folder only has 21. These differences are only partially intentional. I do not have every module on the test box, and other ISV's require dropping files in the GP folder and adding the code on the next start up, but I didn't get that far with 2015 yet.

I am trying to understand your cleanest upgrade concept. Which I did use going from GP2013 to GP2013R2. The block I see is that the databases (DYNAMICS and MPP) cannot be copied from production and run 2015 utilities because of the differences in keys stored in them. At least this is my current opinion based on what I have seen so far.

Thanks again, and I'll post results soon.

    Jon,

The latest patch let me run utilities and upgrade both Dynamics and the company file.  Every time I start GP, it asks me if I want to add new code.  I click yes, but it keeps asking.

Secondly, it says maximum number of users exceeded.  Allowed 1, currently 2.   But it is just me as "sa".

This is big progress from where I was before that patch.  I suspect we are down to getting the keys installed so it knows how many users we are licensed for.

    Thanks for your help,

    Don

    For the maximum users error:

On the GP 2015 SQL instance, run this script before you launch GP, it will clear out the user sessions that were migrated when you restored the production DYNAMICS database:

    USE DYNAMICS

    DELETE from ACTIVITY

This will clear any user records from the ACTIVITY table in GP 2015 (harmless since no other users are actually logged in to GP 2015) and will now show that you have 0 users currently "logged in" to GP 2015.

Once you register GP 2015, you will be allowed the appropriate number of concurrent sessions.

    On adding new code:

This is normal whenever ISVs (ProFad Collections, etc) are added. They put a .cnk file in the GP 2015 folder that is "unzipped" to become usable. It also writes lines to the DYNAMICS.set and Dex.ini.

Fix 1: Launch GP 2015 as Administrator and include new code.

Fix 2. Make sure you have Full Read/Write acess through Windows to the GP 2015 folder. If the Dynamics.Set or Dex.ini is locked down, then you will receive this error.

    Jon,

    I ran

    USE DYNAMICS
    DELETE SY00800
    DELETE SY00801
    DELETE ACTIVITY

    USE	tempdb

    DELETE DEX_LOCK
    DELETE DEX_SESSION

This got me into GP where I could enter all the keys. Looks like we are golden. I'll figure out the add new code thing, we're down to minor details now.

Thanks for that patch, and your help. I'll run through the whole upgrade process a few more times and build a fresh server for the eventual migration.

I am receiving the same Must add new code error message... Is this a bug?
