Server login failure

I have an interesting situation:

We were running GP 2015 through a citrix app and had shut it down as well as removed the database. However, we had a situation arise in which we needed access to GP.

We were able to restore the GP server so that we can run the app. We were also able to restore the database but on a separate server from the original.

I was able to access the databases through the Database Maintenance Utility, however I am unable to login with any account. All I receive is the no descriptive error below:

After googling for many hours I have not found any other instances of this error. Has anyone else run into this login error? Or is there another was to "re-sync" logins or any such thing?

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thank you!

Lucas

You did a basic server move. Did you follow the steps in KB 878449? Sounds like you did not capture the logins. You will need to run the capture logins script to recreate the users and then use GP to reset the users passwords.

My thoughts are that, if you go to the Administrative Tools > OBDC Data Sources (32-bit) window, and test the connection of the ODBC DSN being used for Dynamics GP to connect to the SQL Server, that is what is actually failing, not so much anything specific with Dynamics GP.

Back in October, the SQL team published a document regarding TLS 1.2 supportability for connecting to SQL server.

This article has links for SQL updates that are required for the various SQL Server versions to be able to connect via TLS 1.2, which is the protocol that would be used if TLS 1.0/1.1 were disabled.

    support.microsoft.com/.../tls-1-2-support-for-microsoft-sql-server

The Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client QFE patch is the main one that GP would require to be able to connect to SQL 2012 or SQL 2014 should TLS 1.0 be disabled.

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client - QFE > SQL Server 2012 Native Client (11.0.7001.0)

Microsoft Dynamics GP application itself, doesn't have any reliance on the TLS protocol that would cause login errors such as this. The blog is here:

    community.dynamics.com/.../dynamics-gp-and-tls-1-0

My recommendation is to verify whether the ODBC DSN being used for Dynamics GP is actually failing, which is what I'm thinking, then if it is, if you cannot enable TLS 1.2 for SQL Server to connect, then try downloading the latest version of the SQL Native Client available, and use that to setup a new ODBC DSN, first verifying that it connects successfully to SQL Server and then, if it does, use it to connect Dynamics GP to the SQL Server.

    Thanks

Changing the ODBC datasource is what fixed it. I was unaware that you could change the datasource without logging into GP. Thank you so much!

Great, you found the 32-bit ODBC Administrator.
