One of my clients recently had to send their POS unit in for service. Now since it came back every time we try to print a receipt all we get is "Unkown Printer Error". They have a Star TSP100 printer and it worked fine before it when in for service. All devices are set up using the OPOS drivers. If I go into the Star OPOS configuration routine and can click to open the cash drawer and send a character set to the printer successfully. It just appears that RMS is no longer recognizing the OPOS names. It is quote possible that the devices are not plugged into the same USB ports. Could this possibly be the issue and how do I correct this?

The tech at ELO enlightened me to the real problem which confirmed what I had originally thought. Once you set up all the OPOS drivers, if you ever unplug the devices you need to plug them back into the same ports. Otherwise, all the virtual port assignments get messed up and you wind up with problem like we had. By starting over this reconfigured all the virtual port assignments.
After calling ELO and Star Micronics and having both of them shaking their heads, I decided to uninstall the TSP100 receipt printer and delete the printer and then reboot. I then went through all the same steps and now the printer works. My guess is that somehow when it came back and periperals were plugged into different ports, something got messed up in the virtual port settings so even though the names were correct, the ports behind the scenes were not.
make sure the opos printer name is the same in your opos configuration utility as it is in SO Manager under database - registers - register list - properties - receipt printer.
