How do I retreive data from the Regarding object in JavaScript?

Hi guys!

I had an unusual request from my lazy users:

When creating an activity from Opportunities, they want the Est.Revenue value from the Opportunity contained in the activity Regarding field stored into the activity itself.

I know this could be done with some JavaScript in the OnLoad event... as of the rest of it... some help from you would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks!

Jenny :)

PS: I am using CRM 2011 on premise.

Where are you trying to store this information within the Activity itself? Did you create a new field called Est. Revenue in there? If so, you should be able to configure the mappings to store this data on that field when the Activity is created from an opportunity.

    hi gus,

the answer to this question is interisting for me too.

Well, like I said, if you create a custom field in the form called "Data" or soemthing like that, you can then set the mappings from any entity to place any data you want on that field. For example if you start from Opportunity it will place the Est. Revenue but maybe you create a mapping that will place the Account Number when the activity is launched from an Account. You can configure mappings to fit your conditions.

    hi gus,

    thx for your reply.

i know the mappings, but what if i will import a value from another entity which cant do it with mappings, and what if i dont start the new activity from the entity, and what if i will update a value from a value from anotherentity by opening an existing (not newly created) form  ... i ll update a value on form, by checking a value of another value on another entity...

    thx, greets pit

Here is a piece of code that will pull information from a Parent Record, maybe you can edit this script to work for your purpose?
