Management Reporter Installation Issues

Implementation of Management Reporter

Server : GPServer.Login.su.XXXXXXX.ca - IP : 129.128.133.xx

Domain Controller : Unix Server : Login.su.xxxxxxxx.ca

Joined the workstation to the Login server

Shows as member of the Domain

ManagerFinance.login.su.xxxxxxx.ca

To allow the workstations access to the GPServer IT has created an OPENVPN connection at 129.128.133.yy - entering user ID and Password opens the tunnel correctly.

When this is connected - GP2016 will operate correctly - when this is not connected GP2016 will not connect to the server

ODBC Connection for GP SQLClient 11.0 - Server: 129.128.133.xx - connects and runs with all 4 users.  None of the user workstations were members of the domain until we started to implement Management Reporter - 3 of the 4 are still sitting in WORKGROUP and yet they connect with no issues to GP2016

Management Reporter Installation

Server - did the Server and Client installation on the GPServer

Used Default port 4712 and on the server ( via RDP ) there are no issues to connect.

Migration of FRx was accomplished on the server - no issues

Working in MR on the server - no issues.

Attempting to install on the local machines and encounter the following issues

1. Install of the code is not a problem - the install goes as expected for the client.

2. When attempting to connect to the server

[View:Http://GPServer:4712] get a message that there is not anything listening at the server. Service location

[View:Http://129.128.133.xx:4712] - same message

[View:Http://GPServer.login.su.xxxxxx.ca] - same message

3. Looking at the event viewer tells the same error for all three configurations that

a. The server can not be found

b. There is nothing listening at (server).Service location

So what do I do now?  I am stumped right now.

What version of MR are you running? (Help > About)

    *Current version of MR2012 is CU16 (2.12.16000.17)

The MR server connection should be: http://gpserver:4712/

Run the following in a browser on the client to verify communications:

    http://gpserver:4712/SecurityService.svc

*This should result in a 'Service' page.

If this does not work there something blocking communications. (Firewall, DNS, proxy...)

I enter 129.128.133.48/SecuritySerive.svc and I get a page headed SERVICE and then it goes onto tell me that the Metadata publishing for this service is disabled.

Then follows instructions to create the service page - not really sure I want or need todo this.

The IP address I use to connect to MR is the same as the one I use to connect to the SQL Server for the ODBC for GP2016

    Version : 2.12.16000.17

As long as the SERVICE page comes up this validates that the MR services are running and responding.

Use this same address for the MR Server Connection. Should see a 'Connection attempt was successful' message.

When I attempt to use 129.128.133.48/securityservice.svc

I get the same fail message.  Here is what comes up in Event Viewer on the local machine.

Here is an addition errror message when I attempt only to use the http://129.128.133.48:4712/ connection from the same workstation

There was no endpoint listening at gpserver/InformationService.svc that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details. Machine: MANAGERFINANCE ( being the name of the local workstation)

Just to be on the safe side - I uninstalled MR on the local machine to then reinstall using a user ID that I know is a member of the Domain Admin group

    It makes no difference.

    Interesting POINT

If I - in File Explorer user \\GPSERVER to go to the server location it fails - the only way to get to the folder is \\129.128.133.48

Then it also will ask for user to authorize the connection - when I provide my Domain Admin and save credentials - it works.  Otherwise it is not there.

Just more information for the case notes - hope this helps some one else to find a solution.

    Thank you for the update.

This is a Kerberos authentication error.

Check in the Event Viewer logs: Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Dynamics

Look in the Operational logs of each MR- folder.

There should be information on the Details tab. Probably the MR-Logger or MR-Client folder.

Verify that you are logged into the MANAGERFINANCE machine with a domain account that has been configured as a user in Management Reporter.

Take a look at Resolution 3, 7 and 9 in the following:

KB 2862020 Error message when you start Microsoft Management Reporter 2012: “Can’t connect to the Management Reporter server”

    support.microsoft.com/.../2862020

Event Viewer - there is no location >> Microsoft > Dynamics - sorry

There are no operational logs in ‘each MR Folder’. I have installed only on server and attempting on one client machine

I logged on to ManagerFinance workstation I as Login\UserName - a verified DOMAIN Admin user - and uninstalled / re-installed MR using

    1. IP (only)

    2. IP.login.su.xxxxxx.ca

    3. GPServer

    4. GPServer.login.su.xxxxx.ca

Each of course followed by :4712

No difference under each circumstance.  Still same message about no server listening

The time to fail is ‘instant’ - i hit enter - it gets error - there is no thinking about it - no I wonder who this is - just bang - no access

I tried to do all the steps on the KB as noted - for sure 9 - no changes

Have to go now - running out of client time and then are all heading out - so I will have to pick this up in the morning - thanks

    Hi Bill,

PC's, that have Management Reporter installed, should have Event Viewer logs located as follows:

     EventViewerMR.PNG

Under each of the MR- folders is an Operational folder with logged events

    1. Install the MR Report Designer on the Client PC

    - If error shows when entering server address, leave blank and finish the install

    2. Start the MR Designer

    3. Enter 'http://gpserver:4712/' for the Server and select Test Connection

    - If error shows, look in the Event Viewer logs on the workstation for errors

    - If no errors are listed on the workstation, look for the logs on the MR Server (gpserver)

    - Also look in the MR Configuration Console for any errors in the logs

    - Verify that the Client, MR, DC and SQL systems have time that is set within 5 minutes of each other.

If all of this checks out a support case may need to be created to trace this issue.

Thanks, I will have to look at this on Friday as the client is at an off site meeting all day and I do not current have access to his computer.

Thanks for the pointers and I will see where this takes us.
