ADxstudio portal updates for mscrm 2015 on prem portability check

Hi Team,

 we are using Adxstudio 7.0.00021 portal with mscrm 2015 ( 0.1  update ) on premise. we are migrating to latest 2015 update .

we have target to migrate our current crm 2015 on premise to  Dy 365 on premise in three steps 

step 1. update all roll-ups of 2015

step 2. migrate 2016 on premise

step 3: migrate Dy 365 on premise with update installation

we have below questions:

1. As part of step 1 we want to migrate adxstudio  to 7.0.0024 (v 8.0), is it supported?

2. What is right step (1/2/3) to migrate adxstudio to 7.0.0024 (v 8.0) ?

3. Which version of adxstuido migration is advantageous ( in terms of doing two step migration)7.0.0024 or 7.0.0026? i.e first into 24 ,then 26 or directly 26

4. what is the roll back strategy other than  crm db backup and portal code base backup?

5. we have used OOTB configuration and custom implementation is very minimal, how will be the effort?

    Hi Hari,

    Adxstudio Portals 7.X version is fully compatible with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 version and above.

    Yes, you may face issues while upgrading it to the latest version (7.26) like :

    DLL mismatch, few new features have been added, some HTML and ASPX controls have been changed so if you have written any javascript and CSS, it might need to be changed Also few features have been deprecated too which you may using currently.

    whether Adxstudio 7.0.0026 will provide the backward compatibility or not i.e if we upgrade the portal to 7.0.0026 version with ms crm 2015 on prem, is it supported?

    Is there any CRM sdk dlls dependency? if yes latest  crm dlls will support back ward  comparability from the portal?

    we are want to do it to adjust out time frame and minimize the risk during Dy 365 migration? is it  right approach?

    Hello,

    Answer for 1 - if you are planning to move from CRM 2015 to D365:

    • For Dynamics 365 versions up to 8.1.0, Adxstudio Portals version 7.0.0018 or higher will be required.
    • For Dynamics 365 from version 8.1.1 up to and excluding 9.0.0, Adxstudio Portals version 7.0.0024 or higher will be required.
    • For Dynamics 365 version 9.0.0 or higher, Adxstudio Portals version 7.0.0026 or higher will be required.

    Answer for 2 - First, plan to upgrade your CRM 2015 to D365 9.X, then plan to upgrade your Adxstudio to 7.26 by following the instruction given in Answer for 3.

    Answer for 3 - I would recommend you to go with the highest version of Adxstudio in order to make it compatible with the D365 latest version. You can directly migrate Adxstudio 7.21 to 7.26 ver.     Answer for 4 - For all the CRM configuration/customization and portal configuration done in CRM, Take CRM DB backup. You can rollback the process anytime by Restoring the DB backup.

    Answer for 5 - If you have done less customization then ideally effort should be less. Changes in Adxstudio visual studio solution will require more effort to do all the changes manually as there are a lot of features has been deprecated and enhanced in the new release of the Adxstudio portal.
