GP 2013 and email Setup

I have GP 2013 on a Windows 2008 R2 server with Office 2010. When I go to Tools->Setup->Company->eMail settings and click on either Sales or Purchasing I am immediately greeted with the message "Please run Outlook and set it as the default mail client". Now I have gone into IE and set Outlook as the default email client. What else do I have to do to get this to work? Is Outlook 2010 compatible with GP 2013? Under System Prefetrnces I told it to use a MAPI client and not Exchange.

    Richard,

Have you setup the Outlook client with your email profile yet?  I think that needs to be completed as well.

I have Outlook 2010 setup with a dummy email account that is sending and receiving email. I do not see where in GP you tell it to use this account. The GP System Setup guide has no instructions for this.

I don't know if this helps, but my understanding is that GP will use the Outlook profile associated with the Windows user that the GP application is running under. For example, if you're logged into Windows as a user called RWheeler, but right click on the GP shortcut and choose 'Run as administrator', it will look to use the Outlook profile for the local administrator.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I believe the MAPI connection still needs to have the same system type install to be used between GP and Outlook. If you installed a 64-bit GP, I believe you also need a 64-bit Outlook to use the MAPI connector.

As a side note, exchange would be the best way to go if that is an option for you because it no longer uses the MAPI connector which also makes emails move along faster.

Joshua - there is no 64-bit GP. It's only 32-bit.

The below is copied from a prior post by Derek Albaugh (community.dynamics.com/.../219377.aspx)

"If using 32-bit Office/Outlook, the Server Type in the System Preferences window can be set to either MAPI or Exchange.

If you're using 64-bit Office/Outlook, the Server Type in the System Preferences window must be set to Exchange.

In both cases, when you have Exchange selected, when you choose to Send To, then choose Mail Recipient(Text), it will give you an Exchange window where you'll be asked for user credentials to access.

The MAPI setting will just bring up a regular Outlook email window.

A default Mail profile needs to be setup also on each machine where users are attempting to access the email functionality in Dynamics GP 2013."

Thanks Victoria, this is good to know.

Have we tried to confirm with another program the MAPI connector is working, such as MR?

There is only one email profile on this server. I am logged in as the administrator and simply want to test the email capability of GP 2013. I cannot get past this point so I cannot test it. On this image there is no Exchange. Outlook 2010 sends and receives emails just fine and it is set as the default email program. This is a test environment. I will now move onto the real server where Exchange is setup and working. Hopefully I will not have the same issue.

    Richard,

Assumes you have MAPI specified in the System Preferences.

Try this.   Close Outlook.   Then go to the Tools->Setup->Company->eMail settings.   Without outlook closed, it should prompt you for which mail profile to use.    If you have a drop down list, there are more than one profiles on the machine.   Select the one you want to use and test it.

If only it would behave this way I might be done with this. There is only one profile on this server and it is set as the default. Maybe I will try to create a second one just to see what happens.

Please excuse me while I go give myself a great big kick in the can! For some unexplained reason it is the 64 bit version of Outlook on this server. There is no reason for 64 bit Outlook. This is my mistake. Thanks to everyone for their time.
