Maintain Released Products without dependency on global products list

I have a requirement to maintain the released products for each legal entity as A standalone product lists without connecting to the global products list.

We currently have multiple legal entities, each with products released to them. However multiple companies need to use the same product ID for physically different products. Currently we are unable to do this because the global product list will only allow unique records and not duplicates.

Can anyone advise whether there is an easy solution to this or whether it will require customisation. I understand that previous versions of AX worked in this way (product lists per legal entity without a global list).

Currently on D365O release 3 but moving to release 8 in the next few months.

Hi Pete, is there any strong reason why do you want to use the same product ID for physically different item for different legal entities? I will strongly discourage the customisation to achieve this as this is a core Dynamics AX/365 Product Information Management features that links to other module such as AP/AR/GL/Master planning etc.

The only solution that I can think of is to name the product with legal entity suffix, so for example item number 001 is for door in legal entity A, you can name it A-001 : Door. But for legal entity B, it will be B-001: window.
