Originating Lead on Contact

I have a client who collects potential customers as Leads but instead of qualifying them via CRM the details are entered into another system and then synced (using SSIS) to CRM as contacts. I have been tasked with matching the contact to the original lead using SSIS and specific matching criteria and understand that I am unable set the originating lead field when I find a match. So my question is do I just create a custom originating lead lookup on contact that I can set and a lookup to contact from lead to match the other way

Hello,

originatingleadid is special field and it is available for Create only so you can't populate it during update. That's the answer.

Hi,

Yes, you can create a lookup on contact entity to lead entity, and in the SSIS process that creates the contacts into the CRM from leads, you set this lookup to the lead that the contacts is created from.

You can not change the Originating field after creation. So, having the custom field is a potential solution - it will depend on the criteria that you have to follow.
