We are currently testing GP2016R2 and discovered that all users can see the HR/Payroll navigation pane, and when they click on it, they see everything inside this module. This is a security concern that is preventing us from moving forward with this version of GP. We definitely want to hide the menu items for users that do not have the proper access to see. Is there a good way to do this?
My not so good way is to manually hide the restricted menus per user by editing the SY07130 table in the DYNAMICS database. This is not a desirable work-around because all new users will default to seeing everything again.
Even a script that can sync menu visibility with actual security settings would be better than the current manual method. Any help would be appreciated.

One last thing you may want to check which could cause this.. if your DEX.ini contains the following entry :
ShowAllMenuItems=TRUE
Change it to FALSE or remove the line.. this will take care of the menus that users are not supposed to have access to.
If you're seeing an issue with users seeing every menu and every menu option they don't have access to, there's a couple of things that may be causing it:
1. Go into the (Administration > Setup > Company > Company) Company Setup window and make sure the 'Security' option in the middle has a check-mark next to it. If it doesn't, Dynamics GP isn't actually using the security roles/tasks assigned to GP users, and all users will have access to everything within the Dynamics GP application.
2. The other thing I've seen is, if users launch Dynamics GP and begin trying to work in the application before it is fully loaded, users will see menus and menu items that they normally don't see and don't have access to. If they attempt to click on these items they don't actually have access to, they'll get a message stating as much, but they will still see them.
I usually recommend allowing the application to fully load, until you see all of the Dynamics GP menus show across the top (i.e. Transactions, Reports, Inquiry, etc.) and also when the date and company name at the bottom of the application are showing in black and not grayed/disabled.
Most cases than not, these two are what cause this type of behavior.
Thanks
Did you ever get a resolution?
Thanks for responding, but the problem isn't not knowing who has access to what. The problem is EVERYBODY sees EVERY menu, even the menus they do not have access to open. They get a box saying they don't have access when they try, but in GP 2013, menus that people don't have access to, didn't show to them. This is what we are trying to achieve in GP 2016R2 as well
Thanks, Don
Hi,
Open up your security tasks. Select Microsoft GP as the Product, Navigation Lists as the Type and Navigation Lists as the Series. Information Pane and Customize List are also available as Types. Select the item you want to check and then click on the Print Operation Access button to see everyone with access to that item.
Kind regards,
Leslie
