Hello

Can someone explain me the deference between 'Default issue location' and 'Default Picking location' in Item > Manage inventory > Warehouse items?

Thanks!

RE: Default issue location vs Default Picking location

Tamira's response includes a lot of what is important. Issue locations are the default location used when inventory needs to be Issued in a non-warehouse management scenario. Typically, when using Warehouse management, you have more advanced controls for where to pick from or use product fixed or prime locations. This is a more simplified approach when not using Warehouse management to build loads, generate work, and ship products. So, for example, you create a sales order line or transfer order line for that item. This is the default location that would be used to pick the inventory from (issue transactions to deduce or consume inventory).

Picking location, on the other hand, only allows you to choose locations that are configured in Inventory management as "Picking locations."

Picking locations are still used for outbound, but they are used to segregate locations that are used for being small parts and parcels rather than pallets that may be staged in normal docking or bulk locations. I think (I could be wrong) this is used with Output orders and the old WMSII solution that existed prior to Warehouse management.

RE: Default issue location vs Default Picking location

    Hi Indiguna,

This is what I found as explanation for Default issue location:

The location that is used during the outbound process. This is also the location that will be used for transactions with items that use a storage dimension group with the active location dimension.

This setting will be ignored if you use advanced warehouse processes.

The issue location seems to be the "Ship" location.

For Picking location it states in that form: The identifier of the picking location. The name of the picking location is based on the location name that is specified on the Location names FastTab in the Warehouse page.

We don't use this overview as we use advanced warehouse processes is most of our warehouses. So, I'm afraid that this is the only information I can give you.

    Hi Indiguna,

I've some trouble understanding which fields you mean. Can you share a screenshot of the fields?
