Hi,
I've started to get more involved in development of our Dynamics 365 CE.
So I'm looking at making development changes in our Dev environment. When I find the solution where the Tables, views, forms are located I get a message saying
These environments where created by my predecessor.
UAT and Live have managed solutions.
Please advice how either I can make changes whilst the solution is in an unmanaged state or how to make it a managed solution.
Can changes be made via the customisation route?
Hi Chris
Read this from Microsoft to understand solutions better it will not take long as each section is quite brief.
docs.microsoft.com/.../solutions-overview
It's quite basic:
One thing that can go wrong is any dependencies that are in UAT and not in DEV when you try to import. For example if there is another Table that you has a lookup to your new Table the import would fail and you would debug which dependencies.
If nothing is currently happening in DEV and something goes wrong with the import you can always restore the last backup as the instances is backed up every 30 minutes for at least the last 6 days.
I was beginning to get the impression that maybe an APP had been installed that's not in DEV and that is why I suggested copying UAT to a new DEV. I still think this is possibly a good idea if there is nothing new in DEV that's not in UAT.
Hi,
Sorry I didn't mean to complicate things...
Do you know any good videos that would show me how to complete either of these solutions.
Exporting / Importing version from one environment to another
Create a new environment - Will need to check that I have enough capacity for this
This seems to be getting a bit more complicated when you talk about other packages. If you don't have someone that can analyse this closer I would really consider just a full copy to a new DEV environment. Keep the existing DEV for a while in case anything is missing from UAT.
Hi,
I do apologise as I'm sure you have better thinks to be getting on with. Just it's my first time of doing this in Dynamics.
The solution does have Sitemaps it looks like from the screen shots previously provide there are 4??
And again I hope you don't mind there are update packages for the Marketing. I assume I can, out of office hours just select this and let it run
You import then publish customisations. You will need to add to sitemap if not part of the solution. That's the menu on the left side.
Hi,
Oh, ok.
So if i export from UAT and import to DEV the apps will still work as a will need to select update and not create new from the import screen.
I've exported / imported Powerapps Canvas apps so i would assume this will be no different
Yes you can if it only has that component. I can't see what you have which is why I suggested creating a new solution.
Hi
Sorry but why do I need to create a new solution??
Can I not export my current solution I have in UAT and import to DEV.
Yes create a new solution in UAT and export to DEV as unmanaged. You can delete the unmanaged solution once done to keep it clean.
Hi,
There is only one discrepancy between the environments and that is a table
From UAT
So to 'reverse engineer' as to say, would I follow the steps from the link you provided earlier or is there a different way??
