Unmanaged Solution in Dev. How to make changes or add New Apps, Tables etc

Hi,

I've started to get more involved in development of our Dynamics 365 CE.

So I'm looking at making development changes in our Dev environment. When I find the solution where the Tables, views, forms are located I get a message saying

pastedimage1660301024861v1.png

These environments where created by my predecessor.

UAT and Live have managed solutions.

Please advice how either I can make changes whilst the solution is in an unmanaged state or how to make it a managed solution.

Can changes be made via the customisation route?

I have the same question (0)

Check out this explanation near the bottom and create or edit the last patch or just create a new solution of your own.

    Hi

So basically I can export the unmanaged version change the version number and import it back in to the same environment as a managed solution??

Normally in Dev you have unmanaged which you export to UAT and Production as managed, so if you need to rollback you can delete the managed solution.

Without seeing environment I would just start a new solution add your items that you have customised then when ready export as managed and import that into UAT .

    Hi,

Sorry about this but I'm fairly new to the Dynamics world.

So in Dev and I want to make changes or try out something new how would I go about this??

You just create a new solution.

Add the tables, forms etc you want to customise.

When you are happy and want to move to UAT you would export managed then import to UAT as managed is considered best practice.

You can create as many solutions as you want and or patch them for further changes.

    Hi,

So the solution in DEV contains the following

    pastedimage1660310380438v1.png

So if i just need to create for example another customer entity in the Marketing app how would I g oabou tthis.

I think I've done it back to front

    Screen shot from DEV

The reason why I'm trying to replicate this in DEV is for some reason my predecessor installed a full version of D365 marketing including the services and this it what I need to try out.

In the process of try to obtain another version of Marketing

    Looks like thats the case.

You could import from UAT to Dev or create a new copy of DEV from UAT dependant on I suppose how many changes are sitting in DEV not yet in UAT.

It can be a good clean up to recreate if happy with UAT

    Hi,

There is only one discrepancy between the environments and that is a table

    From UAT

So to 'reverse engineer' as to say, would I follow the steps from the link you provided earlier or is there a different way??

Yes create a new solution in UAT and export to DEV as unmanaged. You can delete the unmanaged solution once done to keep it clean.

    Hi

Sorry but why do I need to create a new solution??

Can I not export my current solution I have in UAT and import to DEV.
