Budget checking for balance sheet account

Hi,

I'm currently using the Budget Control feature within the Budgeting module of D365 Finance and Supply Chain Management.

I’d like to know if balance sheet accounts can be included in budget control.

I appreciate your input.

Thanks!

    Hi,

This is not possible. Budget is related to profit and loss. What is the business requirement? Do you want to have a balance control where the amount may only be positive on a particular account?

    Hello,

Thank you for your question regarding the use of budget control in the Budgeting module of Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management.

By design, the Budget Control functionality is primarily intended for profit and loss (P&L) accounts, as it is used to monitor and control expenditures and revenues against budgeted amounts. Balance sheet accounts (such as assets, liabilities, and equity) are generally excluded from budget control because they do not represent operational spending or income that needs to be restricted or monitored in the same way.

    Key Points:

    • Budget control is typically applied to main accounts associated with expense and revenue categories.
    • Attempting to include balance sheet accounts in budget control may result in unexpected behavior or validation issues.
    • If there is a specific business requirement to track budgeted values for balance sheet accounts (e.g., cash flow planning), this is usually handled through financial reporting or custom budget models, rather than through budget control enforcement.

If this addresses your question, please consider marking the response as accepted so it may assist others with similar inquiries.

    Best regards.

    Hi Andre,
Thank you for your swift response.
I'm currently trying to find a workaround to check the available credit limit for a bank loan. I’d like to be able to monitor the remaining balance so that, if there's still credit available, I can proceed with availing another bank loan.
How can we set this up in D365 Finance and Supply chain?
    Appreciate your input.
    Thanks.
