Can I Include a Power BI Report in a D365 FO Deployable Package?

ReportReport

Greetings dears !

I have developed a power bi report and I want to embed it inside a workspace in D365 FO.

I know that I have to upload the ".pbix" file on LCS then I can view it inside D365 FO.

But is there a way that I can include this power bi file in a deployable package?

So I'm looking into adding a power bi report in my AX Model.

Is this possible?

Any advice is appreciated !

Thanks in advance !

    Hi Momochi,

When you develop Power BI report with entity store or data lake and embedded with D365 Analytics workspace then you need to use Axresource file to point your PBIX file which is a part of your model. All Pbix files you can find in Axresource folder based on model.

You need to include your pbix files to deployable package.

    Hi Parag,

    Thank you for your reply.

    But I'm sorry I'm a little lost.

Since the method you described to me does not involve the PowerBI.com service, how the data sources should be created in Power BI Desktop?

I usually build the power Bi reports using OData by typing the the D365FO URL followed by "/data" at the end to get the exposed data entities.

If I want to embed the Power BI report through a deployable package, can I use the Odata method or I have to get the data from SQL server?

As for your question about including the Power BI file in a deployable package, it is possible to add the report to your AX model. Here's how:

    1. First, you'll need to upload the ".pbix" file to your Dynamics 365 instance by following the standard procedure for uploading Power BI files to LCS.

    2. Once you've uploaded the file, go to the "Power BI Workspace" form in D365 FO and create a new workspace.

    3. In the workspace, click the "Add report" button and select the Power BI file you uploaded earlier.

    4. After adding the report, you can customize the workspace and share it with other users in your organization.

    5. To include the report in your AX model, you'll need to export the workspace as a deployable package. This can be done from the "Power BI Workspace" form by clicking the "Export" button and selecting the appropriate options.

    6. After exporting the package, you can import it into your AX model just like any other deployable package.

That's it! Your Power BI report should now be included in your AX model and ready to use.

    Hi Shawn,

    Thanks for your reply!

But is it possible to embed the power bi report in a cloud Dev environment?

Sorry I'm confused regarding what should the data source type is for the reports.

If I want to embed the Power BI report in D365 and I want the report to be always updated with the latest transactions, what should I make the data source type is (How to get the data)?

is it SQL server or OData can work?
